The AIA Tours the Historic Barn at UCR
This week, the American Institute of Architects hosted a tour at a century old building known as “The Barn,” which is one of the most popular and beloved places on the University of California, Riverside Campus. Tilden-Coil completed the expansion and renovation of the historic venue in February of 2020 and had a chance to present on the hidden challenges found. Our Building Information Modeling team shared with those in attendance how we were able to navigate through the obstacles using 3D laser scanning and overlaying the point cloud of existing conditions with architectural and structural models. The fully coordinated BIM model was used to construct building without delay for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire sprinklers.

After the presentation, including segments from SVA Architects and Design West Engineering, the group toured the venue and enjoyed a delicious meal courtesy of The Barn Catering Team. Congratulations to the project team and everyone involved for partnering on this monumental project for the UCR Community!
