Celebrating Excellence: Brian Jaramillo, Engineering Hall of Fame Member, Received Honorary Doctorate
Brian Jaramillo, Chief Operating Officer and past President
of Tilden-Coil Constructors was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree
from Cal Poly Pomona during the university’s spring graduation ceremony.
Jaramillo’s journey from student to industry leader began in
1987 when he pursued a degree in construction engineering technology at Cal
Poly Pomona. Jaramillo credits Cal Poly Pomona for providing him with technical
expertise, leadership, and communication skills. A pivotal moment in his career
was applying for a scholarship from the Associated General Contractors of
America (AGC). This scholarship not only provided financial support but also
led to an internship with Tilden-Coil, marking the start of his impressive
38-year career with the company.
Throughout his professional journey at Tilden-Coil
Constructors, Jaramillo advanced from project intern to President of the
company where he held the position for 15 years. During his time as the fourth
President in the company's 86-year history, he re-structured the
organization to increase its focus on client service which resulted in the
development of the company's service model which was implemented in 2005. The
service model now serves as the organization's leadership blueprint
which aligns all employees toward serving clients in a predictable and
consistent way. Jaramillo led the company through transformational growth as
the result of his leadership and focus on client service. In 2020, Jaramillo
transitioned to Chief Operating Officer, where he is now even more focused
on production effectiveness. His philosophy of embracing opportunities and
fostering growth has inspired the many students and professionals he has worked
with and mentored in his career.
